What I'm Learning about Prayer

I stated here that I wanted to become closer to the Lord this year and make this year a year of prayer.
I wanted to share what I have been learning about prayer.

Have you ever walked into a room where you did not know people.  Or you go to church and there is someone new visiting and and you had to introduce yourself.  This can be kind of awkward at first.    Once you get beyond that first awkward time you can reap the benefits of pursuing the deep rewards of friendship.  If you don't know God well talking to Him may be awkward at first.
Well when you come to the Lord on a regular basis (daily even many times a day) you don't have to have that feeling of awkwardness.
Through the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ on our behalf we can approach God with Confidence.  We don't need to feel awkward or be nervous or unsure.

We can come to Him with assurance that He will hear us and be interested in us.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,
let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings,
Hebrews 10: 19, 22a

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.  For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.  Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 4:14-16

We can approach the throne of grace with Confidence we can leave our shyness and timidness behind because God knows even our weaknesses.
He wants to give us Grace and Mercy he wants to us to come to Him with our needs.

Our preacher has been going over to the church every night for the past 2 weeks and walking up and down the isle, praying for each person. He has had a power on his sermons the last 2 weeks, like never before! I just wrote a blog post the other day about it. He has learned how to pray, really pray from the heart with a burden and not just a check off list.
